Leading Forward

The internship may be where the journey begins, but it doesn’t end there. Hear from former interns who have grown into leadership roles across the organization. Their stories showcase the long-term impact of the program and the opportunities that exist to build a rewarding career with SFI.

Megan - 2013 Intern

Director, EPMO

Megan began her career with the company as a Project Coordinator and Organizational Development Intern, where she gained hands-on experience leading initiatives and working across multiple teams. One of her key contributions included coordinating a system rollout. Leadership consistently pushed her outside of her comfort zone, helping her develop strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Megan credits the culture of the company as a defining part of her experience, sharing that “the culture of the company made work fun and that made it an enjoyable place to be.” It’s a big reason she has continued her career with SFI since her initial internship in 2011.

Aimee - 2019 Intern

Aimee joined the company as a Solutions Analyst Intern, entering the transportation industry with no prior experience and a strong interest in gaining hands-on exposure. Consistent mentorship from a senior leader who was deeply invested in her development made a lasting impact, helping shape not only her professional goals, but her personal growth as well.

From the start, Aimee appreciated the supportive environment and the trust placed in her, which allowed her to take on meaningful responsibilities and grow with confidence. After her internship, she continued working part-time while completing her undergraduate degree before returning full-time as a Business Analyst.

Over time, Aimee had the opportunity to mentor students through the internship program, taking pride in guiding new talent and supporting their development. Today, she continues to value the program’s growth and evolution, crediting its strong culture, mentorship, and opportunities as key drivers in her own career journey within SFI.

Organizational Development Coordinator

Chris - 2019 Intern

Chris started his journey as a Business Analyst Intern, gaining hands-on experience in accounting and finance within a fast-paced environment. When applying, he valued the SFI internship program’s ability to let him explore various roles throughout his 16-month internship.

During his time as an intern, Chris took on real responsibilities, including supporting key financial processes under tight deadlines. This experience helped bridge the gap between technical, textbook accounting, and real-world applications.

He also saw significant growth in his communication skills and overall confidence, particularly when it comes to problem-solving and developing technical expertise, helping drive his career forward.

Assistant Controller

Nate - 2019 Intern

Nate joined the company as an Operations Intern, gaining hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of trucking and supply chain management. Drawn to the industry early on, he saw the role as an opportunity to build his career from the ground up.

Throughout his internship, Nate took on real responsibility, managing and leading drivers while balancing multiple projects with competing priorities. These experiences helped shape his leadership style and pushed him to grow quickly in a demanding environment.

He credits his internship as a defining experience in his career, particularly the high-quality leaders who provided meaningful feedback and supported his development. Today, as Director of Operations, Nate continues to build on that foundation.

Director of Operations

Noah - 2023 Intern

Noah joined the company as an Operations Support Intern. The opportunity to gain exposure to multiple departments and learn from different areas of the industry was what initially attracted him to the internship program at SFI. During his internship, Noah led a driver feedback forum that gave drivers a platform to share ideas and highlight opportunities for improvement. The experience allowed him to better understand the importance of communication, problem-solving, and turning employee feedback into meaningful organizational change. He valued working in an environment where questions were encouraged, curiosity was rewarded, and opportunities for advancement were clearly visible. Noah continues to build on the foundation established during his internship, applying the leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills he developed early in his career as a Sales Manager today.
